SUSAN was a tenured member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and has worked with such distinguished conductors as Franz-Paul Decker, Zubin Mehta, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos and others. Freelance work has ranged from chamber orchestras, to opera, ballet, CBC radio and TV, musical theatre, and popular artists: McGill Chamber Orchestra, National Ballet of Canada, Opera Lyra Ottawa, Québec sait Chanter, Liberace, Shirley MacLean, Tony Bennett, Ginette Reno to name a few.
A chamber music enthusiast, Susan has performed with colleagues at the McMichael Art Collection, the Varley Art Gallery, Glendon University's Journée Internationale de la Francophonie, the Mississauga Living Arts Centre, Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association events, the Waldorf School, Sunnybrooke Hospital, and more.
Susan was a music subject editor for The Canadian Encyclopedia and a contributor to the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada, writing and translating articles on musical and artistic topics. She has written concert program notes for the Montreal and Toronto Symphonies, the Montreal Pro Music Society, taught music appreciation courses at McGill and Ryerson Universities and given presentations at the Toronto Public Library.
Susan actively ran Creative Strings Violin Studio from 2002-2020. Her students successfully completed Royal Conservatory of Music exams, participated in recitals for the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association, and pursued studies at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, Humberside Collegiate, and universities. She was a violin faculty member of the Royal Conservatory Community School (Toronto), and music specialist at the Toronto French School (Mississauga). Other prior teaching included Dawson College (Montreal), Ecole de LaSalle,and Canterbury High School (Ottawa) and at the summer Camp Musicale in Joliette-Lanaudière.
Susan is a performance graduate of McGill University's Faculty of Music and the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (music) from Concordia University, a Master of Arts in musicology from l'université de Montréal, an Honours BA in translation from York University and achieved the status of certified French to English translator with the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario.
Susan wrote the violin scale book Creative Strings: Scales with Susan (2010). She edited Soundplay - Eight Character Pieces for solo violin (Susan Griesdale) and performed the world premiere of these pieces in 2011.
In 2015, Susan attended the Starling-Delay Symposium on Violin Studies at The Juilliard School in New York. In 2016, she participated in "Joachim at 185" - a conference honouring this great violinist, in Boston, MA.
